We do not simply focus on traditional buildings, however. We also work with new and modern buildings, for example building in a bespoke stone fireplace or floor to ceiling marble to create a fabulous bathroom. From enhancing a modern design with architectural antiques to completing an extension, conservatory, garage or new build, we bring the same standard of excellence to all our work.

A bespoke service

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to our services. We work with professional clients who have a range of expertise on hand and simply need us for our specialist lime pointing and stonemasonry skills. Others require us to manage the project from start to finish, including the sourcing of sub-contracted craftsmen with expertise in associated trades like woodwork or design, as well as authentic materials, local stone and architectural antiques.

Most of our work comes via recommendation

Customer experience is our priority and we are particularly proud of the fact that most of our work comes from existing clients or via personal recommendation. That is because we pride ourselves on the relationships that we develop with clients who trust us to carry out all types of work in a highly professional, helpful and tidy manner.

I’ve known of Tom Ferris and his work for some time. I have used him for private work on my property – which this review covers – but as a Trustee of a Grade A heritage property in the Borders, I have recommended and used him for work on that elevated level of craftsmanship. I have also seen his work on at least three other Grade A properties. I regularly recommend him to Boards of Trustees and private individuals who own heritage properties. He worked for me on a private project, creating a curved wall as part of a new remodelling of an area of my property. He produced a result that is frequently praised by those who see it for the first time.

Thomas and his team removed cement mortar from a couple of elevations on a cottage. They then repointed using lime mortar. A brilliant job with minimal disruption. We have dry houses now! I would happily use Thomas Ferris again.

Thomas and his team replaced some stones on the exterior wall of my listed house and removed some crumbling mortar before fixing the gaps. The end result is great – it blends in with the rest of the building perfectly and they were professional throughout the process. I was made aware of T J Ferris Stonemasonry when I saw their work at Ayton Castle. I commissioned them to build a concave wall in my garden, which was completed within time and budget. Subsequently he has gone on to work on the Grade A listed walls on our estate. We would now use T J Ferris Stonemasonry as our first choice.

Thomas and his team repaired, repointed and replaced the landing of our colony external stairs. As the render was removed from the step walls it became clear the steps were in greater disrepair than we thought. Thomas was quick to make the steps safe and clearly explained the additional works needed.

He also repaired some weathered stone work and removed old cement repairs repointing with the correct mortar.

Thomas and his team were polite and friendly and tidy.
