In 2014 I started T J Ferris Stonemasonry to focus on projects that offered new challenges and experiences in the field. Since then, we have gone from strength to strength working on variety of buildings and structures including some of the finest estates and homes developing our skills and expertise, and applying these to each job we undertake.

In 2015 we restored Ayton Castle’s Dovecot, the oldest structure in Ayton leading to a contract on the castle lasting for years, later we undertook major conservation work to Coldingham Priory which is the oldest building we have worked on and very historically important.

We have built our reputation on delivering the highest standard of craftsmanship with outstanding customer service at an affordable price. As a family business we have over 60 years of stonemasonry and general building experience helping us take projects from imagination or plans through to delivery no matter what challenges may arise on the way.

Thomas and his team replaced some stones on the exterior wall of my listed house and removed some crumbling mortar before fixing the gaps. We have used Thomas and his team several times do undertake stonework and other external repairs at Abbeyhill Baptist Church in Edinburgh. The building is over 100 years old now and the stonework needed significant work. Thomas undertook this work to a high quality, and several neighbours commented on how quiet the work was despite stonework repairs taking place. We have subsequently used Thomas’ services for other repairs to the building and recommend his services highly.

Thomas and his team removed cement mortar from a couple of elevations on a cottage. They then repointed using lime mortar. A brilliant job with minimal disruption. We have dry houses now! I would happily use Thomas Ferris again.

Thomas and his men repointed the front of our bungalow, repaired a stone widow sill and replaced some rendering. Despite the current covid situation causing a delay to the start of the work, the work was carried out efficiently and smoothly.
